Baku Bears Weekly Update 22nd April 16

22 Apr

Hello Hello
Don’t know about you all but am only starting to come down from the high that was last Sunday. An absolutely brilliant display at Hampden saw us knock the soap dodgers out of the Scottish cup.
Cup Final will be played on Saturday 21st May against HIVs.

The Bear Pit was buzzing all game and the celebrations at the end will always be memorable.
Special thanks to Les and Isaac for the pies and lasagne and Craig MacKinnon for supplying the vodka shots after winning the fitba card.
I have added photos that I took during the day to the website. Link to the page is below
I have received a few videos that people took with their phones and will attempt to pull them all together in the coming weeks.

As you’ll have been aware it was a free swally day and Shug informed me that the total bill for the day came to …..wait for it…….this was not fixed……….were the stars shining on us?……. 1690 AZN !!!!!!!

Mention must also go to the Baku Bears golfers who played against the local Ce*tic club on Sunday morning before the game and ran out 2-1 winners. Believe that there was all sorts of excuses being made by the opposition ( wind in the wrong direction etc), always cheated never defeated !!!!!

Unfortunately we lost 3-2 to the spoon burners at Easter Road on Wednesday night but in all honestly the boys looked tired. It can hardly be surprising after the last 3 weeks.

This weekends game is our last at Ibrox for the season against Alloa and we will be presented with the Championship Trophy. Game will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV tomorrow (Saturday) with a 3.30pm kick off Baku Time.

The club have made a 500GBP donation to Fields of Dreams charity via Craig MacKinnon who will be captaining the home team at Ibrox on Tuesday 3rd May with a 7pm kick off. Craig will be presenting a cheque from the club at the event and will be taking the club flag for some photos.
If you would like to see further details about what charities they support go to
All the very best to Craig for the evening and bring back a victory.

Now we’ve been promoted we are going for 55

Update for Sunday’s Game

15 Apr

Hello Hello
A quick note with some good news for the members.
It has been decided that this Sunday’s game will also be free swally day in the Bear Pit.
Drinks available 30 mins before the game and for 30 mins after.
See you all there.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 15th April

14 Apr

Hello Hello
Another successful game on Sunday saw us lift the Petrofac Cup. Over 48,000 were at Hampden for the ‘diddy’ cup game against Peterheid which was the highest attendance anywhere in Britain last weekend….yip the only show in town.

Trust that all the members enjoyed the free swally on Sunday
I have added a new page to the website with some photos from Sundays free swally.

At half time we drew out the 3 lucky people who requested tickets for this weekends game, winners were:
Derek Clarkson
Davie Hughes
Graham McKerron
Enjoy the game lads.

Next season we will be registering the club which will allow members to request tickets from Ibrox.

This weekends game, as if anyone didn’t know, is the Scottish Cup semi-final against the unwashed.
As already intimated this is a MEMBERS ONLY event in the Bear Pit. Game is on Sunday with a 3pm kick aff Baku Time and will be shown via RTV.

6 members of the Baku Bears (Graham Beattie, Ali Still, Les Tulleth, Steve Baker, Kenny Dawson & Billy Flint) will be playing golf on Sunday morning against the local Cel*ic supporters club.
Good luck guys and am sure you’ll give them a doing, might want to take a few bars of soap with you for when they end up in the water !!!!!!

The under 17’s UEFA Championship is being held in Baku next month. The initial draw has been made and Scotland are drawn with Azerbaijan, Portugal and Belgium in the group stage. As soon as we know further information regards dates and times of the matches we will let you know.

There are a few new members the last weeks who should be getting this mail. If you haven’t got this mail let me know by return !!!!

Baku Bears Weekly Update 8th April 16

8 Apr

Hello Hello
Tuesday finally saw us clinch the Championship league title with a 1 nil win against a very stubborn well defensively organised Dumbarton. Our place back in the Premiership is now assured. Thanks to the members who came down to the Bear Pit to watch the game, just a pity the game was so late that we couldn’t carry out the required celebrations but seeing as this weekends game is a free swally for all members am sure we will make up for it.

This weekend sees us playing our 2nd final since our demotion into the lower leagues. Its a game against Peterheid, who happened to be our first opponents after our demotion. An anticipated 50,000 crowd is expected at Hampden to watch the game and we will be showing it live via RTV on SUNDAY with a 6pm kick off.
A reminder that both this weeks Cup Final and next Sundays game against the unwashed soap dodgers are strictly MEMBERS ONLY.

As you are aware Alex Wylie, one of the founding members and past president of the Baku Bears passed away last week. There will be a remembrance for Alex which will be held in the Ibrox Members Lounge @ 19.00 hours on Wednesday the 13th April, should anyone wish to attend then please contact Andy Townsley.

Tomorrow’s Title decider ?

4 Apr

Hello Hello
After Saturdays last minute major disappointment ( we even had the vodka shots all ready!!), tomorrow nights game at home against Dumbarton now takes special significance in securing the league title and our position back in the Premiership.
Game kicks aff at 10.45pm Baku time and will be shown via RTV in the Bear Pit.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 1st April 2016

1 Apr

Hello Hello
First I must start out with some sad news.
One of the founding members of the Baku Bears, Alex Wylie, passed away on Wednesday in Spain after a brave battle. Our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time. There will be a cremation in Spain on Wednesday 6th April. The club are keeping in contact with Alex’s family and will make further announcements as they are known.

This weeks game sees us travel to Kirkcaldy to take on Raith Rovers tomorrow ( Saturday 2nd April) with a 6pm kick off time. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV.

A couple of announcements regards upcoming games.

The Petrofac Cup Final game against Peterheid on Sunday 10th April, 7pm kick off, will be a strictly members only event in the Bear Pit with the club picking up the bar bill, hope to see you there.

The Scottish Cup semi-final game against the Unwashed on Sunday 17th April, 3 pm kick off will also be a strictly members only event in the Bear Pit.

Game against Queen of the South Tomorrow

25 Mar

Tomorrows game at home to Queen of the South will be shown in the Bear Pit with a 7pm kick off.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 11th march 16

11 Mar

Hello hello
Another great week to be a Bear.

Last Saturdays 4 nil humping of Dundee in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup was probably the best we have played all season. This now sets us up nicely for a semi-final clash with the Great Unwashed who for the past months have been disguising themselves as empty stadium seats.

Its back to league action this weekend with a home game against Dumbarton TONIGHT with a 23.45 kick off Baku Time. Game will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV for those still up and about.

As you are all probably aware the Baku Bears joined Rangers First and over the past few months there has been various discussions and meetings taking place trying to have all the separate fans groups under single unified entity.
To that end there is a proposal being put forward, see link below.

Please let me know how you would like to vote on this, voting opens on 21st March and closes on 27th March. There are meetings being held on Sunday 13th march @ 3pm and Thursday 17th March @ 7pm in the Ibrox Suite should anyone wish to attend.

The tiny group of members who partake in the bevvy will have noticed a lack of bottled Heineken this week, this shortage has nothing to do with the Jakies in the Clansman guzzling it all. Shug has managed to now have Heineken on draft in the Clansman and according to a few people it is better than the bottles.

The club are actively looking at getting sleeping bags made with the Baku Bears Crest as over the past weeks there have been at least 2 instances of members falling asleep, one wonders if a return of Noisy George the doorman would prevent this !!!!!!!

Baku Bears Weekly Update 4th March 16

4 Mar

Hello Hello
Well what a week that was, 3 points against St Mirren last Saturday followed by another 3 points against Raith Rovers on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile the Spoon Burners were beaten firstly by Dumbarton on Saturday followed by a 3rd defeat in a row against Queen of the South with none other than on loan Rangers midfielder Andy Murdoch scoring the winner.
Liewell’s secret agent Stokes is doing a great job

That leaves us 14 points clear at the top with 9 games left to play, Do Cadbury’s do Champagne Easter Eggs ?????

This weekend sees a return to Scottish Cup action with the Most Successful Football Club on the Planet hosting Dundee, a team who went to the Girodome on Wednesday and held them to a scoreless draw.
Game is tomorrow with a 16.30 kick off, Baku time. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit. El Presidente has return from his field break so watch out there maybe a speech either at half time or full time !!

Our following 2 games, at home to Morton and away to Falkirk are both played on Friday nights with a 23.45pm kick off Baku time.

Tomorrows game at home to Raith Rovers

29 Feb

Hello Hello
Just a quick mail to let you all know that Shuggie will be opening the Bear Pit for tomorrows game. It is only being shown on RTV so if anyone fancies seeing it drop in. Kick off is 23.45 Baku time.

Baku Bears weekly update 26th February 16

26 Feb

Hello hello
Another good week for the Gers. Firstly on Sunday night we won a very frustrating game against Queen of the South with a cracker of a goal from Kenny Miller.
On Wednesday HIV’s were well beaten by Morton.
This leaves us sitting 8 points clear at the top of the league with 11 games left to play.

This weekends game is a home match against St Mirren on Saturday with a 7pm kick off Baku time. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit.
Tuesday sees us at home against Raith Rovers in the league followed by next Saturdays Scottish cup tie against Dundee, also at Ibrox with 4.30pm kick off Baku time.

It is worth mentioning that one of our members (who will remain anonymous) gave up the chance to watch the game last Sunday evening, instead he looked out his Jamie Oliver cookbook and prepared a meal for a local couple complete with trifle, Meals on Wheels and Help the Aged is alive and kicking here in Baku !!!!!

The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund into which the club donated a lot of money to a few years back sent out the following –
As we approach the fourth anniversary of the launch of the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund, our Committee has considered a number of options on the best way to invest the money so generously donated by supporters since the dark days of administration in 2012.
A host of proposals were discussed at length, including the creation of an Ibrox Museum to keeping the funds for use if any litigation was required with regard to the absurd notion of stripping Rangers of titles.
However, the RFFF Committee has unanimously agreed that utilising the funds to commission and pay for a new 264-seater Academy Stand and Changing Facility at the Club’s training ground would be a fitting and lasting legacy.
We initially engaged two top-tier contractors who originally advised the budget for this would be more than £1.2 million. This figure was prohibitive so we approached two other successful companies – SHD and Lochlie Construction – and are now happy to report the project can be delivered for £400,000-£450,000.
The RFFF Committee, like the majority of supporters, are keen to support the club’s youth department and the creation of this new facility overlooking the main youth pitch would be of great benefit to the Academy and provide a permanent tribute to the fans worldwide who have donated to the Fighting Fund in the past four years.
We have held informal talks with the club about our proposal and they are fully supportive.
There is no doubt Rangers is now in the hands of shareholders who genuinely have the best interests of the club at heart so the RFFF Committee believes the time is right to invest our funds.
The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund was launched by Ibrox legends Walter Smith and Sandy Jardine in 2012 to help safeguard and protect the club’s future and assets.
We now believe we are on the correct path, Rangers is heading in the right direction with good people controlling the club so the Committee believes this project would be an appropriate way to utilise our funds.
It is important to stress, however, that this money was donated in good faith by supporters and while the Committee agrees this project would be the best way forward it is ultimately down to the fans to decide. The RFFF is in no doubt, though, that this is the best way forward and we urge the fanbase to back this idea.
Anyone with alternative thoughts on how to invest the funds please contact us through our official website – – providing full name, email address and Rangers number.
We will hold a meeting in the Ibrox Suite at 7.30pm on Monday 29 February to discuss this proposal in further detail

If any of the members have any suggestions or are in agreement with the above can you please reply by mail before Monday so we can pass on your suggestions, one member has already suggested that a museum would be a better option as it would benefit all supporters.

Todays game v Queen of the South is on

21 Feb

Hello hello
Todays game away to Queen of the South will be shown in the Bear Pit via Rangers TV with an 8pm kick off Baku time.
See you there

Baku Bears Weekly Update 12th February 16

12 Feb

Hello Hello
It was a disappointing weekend with Rangers drawing the Scottish Cup tie with Kilmarnock at Ibrox, it was the first game under the Magic Hat that we failed to score a goal. So it’s a return fixture at Killie this Tuesday with a 23.45 kick off to see who makes it through to the next round. Unfortunately due to Champions League fixtures there will be no live feed of the game, not even on RTV. So we’ll have to resort to listening to the game on the Tranny, for the Ladyboy Loyal Members a Tranny is actually a radio !!!!!!!

This weekends game is an away trip to Alloa, game is on Saturday with a 19.00 kick off time, game will be shown in the Bear Pit. Interesting to see that Alloa have reduced the width of their plastic pitch for the second half of the season.

The next few games see us only playing on a Saturday 3 times between now and the end of March.
Next lot of fixtures and times are below
Sat 13th Feb Away to Alloa KO 19.00
Tues 16th Feb Away to Killie KO 23.45
Sun 21st Feb Away to QOS KO 20.00 on Sky Sports
Sat 27th Feb Home to St Mirren KO 19.00
Tues 1st Mar Home to Raith KO 23.45
Mon 7th Mar Away to Hibs KO 23.45 on Sky Sports
Fri 11th Mar Home to Morton KO 23.45
Fri 18th Mar Away to Falkirk KO 23.45 on BT Sports
Sat 26th Mar Home to QOS KO 19.00

Baku Bears Weekly Update 5th February

5 Feb

Hello Hello
It was another 6 points in the bag last week after King, Billy scored an injury time winner away at Falkirk in the 1-0 win last Saturday and Halliday scored in the 1-0 win away at Raith Rovers on Tuesday, Glad to see that Halliday wasn’t sent off for an over exuberant handshake !!!!!

This weekends game is a Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox with Lee McCulloch returning as Killie manager after Gary Locke resigned last week , match is tomorrow (Saturday) with a 16.30 kick off. Game will be shown in the Bear Pit as normal.

The Calcutta Cup Rugby game v’s the auld enemy is being shown in the Clansman after the fitba with a 20.50 kick off from Murrayfield.

We will also be presenting the Mobile Dental Clinic with a cheque for their charity from last years Charity fund.

There is no truth in the vicious rumour that a certain female member broke her foot after tripping over her 24v bus battery that was powering her ‘toy’, everyone knows full well she tripped over a cobble whilst leaving the Clansman at 3am !!!!!

On a safety note there was a mugging this week so we would ask members to be vigilant when walking around the streets full of the bevvy (or not as may be the case).

Reminder – Members meeting tonight

2 Feb

Hello Hello
Just a wee reminder that there is a members meeting tonight in the Bear Pit @ 7pm.
Hoping to see as many members as possible.

Rangers are away to St Mirren tonight with a 11.45pm kick off. Seems that the only way of seeing the game live is via Rangers TV.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 28th January 2015

28 Jan

Hello Hello
It was another week and another 3 points on the way to the Championship with a 2 nil win away to Morton on Monday night. Unfortunately Halliday was send off for a second booking in what can only be described as completely unbelievable circumstances, anyway No-one likes us we don’t care. We remain 5 points clear of HIV’s with a 27 goal difference.

This weekends game see Falkirk coming to Ibrox with the game on Saturday with a 7pm kick off, game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit.

There will be a members meeting on Tuesday night 2nd February @ 7pm, hope to see as many members attending. If you can’t attend but have something that you would like brought up then please drop me an email and will ensure it is discussed.

It’s obviously a very unsettling time for us all work wise but we were glad to hear from a Clansman regular that George the ex doorman was seen working in Tenerife as a Saga tour rep keeping all the coffin dodgers suitably bored senseless with the tour bus microphone. News reports are stating that there is now a bigger exodus from Tenerife than Syria !!!!!

Other Rangers News
Oduwa has returned to Spurs after his loan spell
Rangers target Diagouraga signed for Leeds last week
The Magic Hat is still hoping to have 2 additional signings before the transfer windae closes.
This week Ashley lost his case in the courts to prevent Rangers from trying to block him from voting at general meetings.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 7th January 2016

7 Jan

Happy New Year
Last Saturday’s game ended up being a cracker with Rangers running riot in the second half in particular to complete their biggest win of the season scoring 6 goals with no reply from Dumbarton. 36 year old Kenny Millar scoring a hat trick.

This week’s game see us at home in the Scottish Cup against the Baku Bears club lawyer’s side Cowdenbeath. Game will kick off at 5pm Baku time on Sunday 10th January and will be shown in the Bear Pit.

The transfer window has now opened and Rangers being busy to date. Harry Forrester signed a 6 month contract, Maciej Gostomski also signed to the end of the season, Gedion Zelalem has extended his loan spell from Arsenal to the end of the Season, Josh Windass and Matt Crooks signed agreements to join the club in the summer on 4 year deals.

Just over a week to go to the annual Festive Raffle so make sure you have returned your tickets and donated any prizes.

The recently installed TV in the Bear Pit has ended up being a bit of a damp sqib the past weeks as you can see from the attached picture. It appears that the new sub branch of the Baku Bears, now called the Ladyboy Loyal have not enjoyed the new facilities that was given them !!!!

Baku Bears Weekly Update – Hogmany 2015

31 Dec

Hello Hello
Monday nights game ended up being a right cracker, it was played like a cup final. The spoon burners and particularly their Manager had all their pre match talk very firmly stuffed back down their throats with an excellent 4 – 2 win to the Famous Glasgow Rangers. Not content with losing to the most successful club on the planet the HIV’s have now dropped down to 3rd in the league after Falkirk leapfrogged them on goal difference this week.

This weekends game sees us away to Dumbarton on Saturday 2nd January with a 7pm kick off Baku time, game as always will shown in the Bear Pit.

Reminder that the Festive Season Raffle will take place on Sunday 17th January. Lets have a big push over the next 2 weeks to sell the tickets and donate prizes for the raffle.

The Clansman will be closed tomorrow ( New Years day) but open again on Saturday.

The committee would like to wish all the members and their families all the very best for 2016, Lang may yir Lumb reek.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 24th December 15

24 Dec

Hello Hello
Well the game against Falkirk last weekend certainly didn’t go to plan. Rangers huffed and puffed all game but just couldn’t get a result. The loss still sees us top of the league but only on goal difference and Falkirk only a further 6 points behind.

This Mondays game definitely takes on a greater importance now. Don’t forget the game kicks off at 7pm Baku Time and will be shown in the Bear Pit. Doors open from 5pm.

Ticket sales for the Festive raffle are going well though we could do with a few more prizes.

Hope you all have a great Christmas tomorrow and remember when you open a present that you don’t like there is always someone more unfortunate than you…some pricks will be getting a seltic top !!!!!!!

The Clansman will be open tomorrow from 2pm for anyone needing a wee refreshment.

Onwards and upwards

Baku Bears Weekly Update 17th Dec 15

17 Dec

Hello Hello
Last week saw us scrapping against a very stubborn Morton side to get a single point at home. Our lead at the top remains at 3 points after HIV’s were held to a draw with Falkirk.

This weekends game see us travel to Falkirk, game is on Saturday 19th December with a 16.30 kick off Baku Time and will be shown in the Bear Pit.

The following game against HIV’s on Monday 28th is shaping up to be a possible title deciding fixture, the game kicks off at 7pm Baku time and we will open the club up at 5pm.

Reminder about the Festive raffle, we are still looking for donations of prizes and can members who haven’t already picked up raffle books do so when you have a chance.
I am lead to believe that one of the auction prizes will be a year of looking after Sarah seeing as the doorman and ploughman have departed Baku and Shug has kindly offered free use of the pool table !!!!!

Gary Woolston sent a mail to wish all the Baku Bears a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

For all members who are travelling home for the festive Season have a great time with your families and see you next year. For those staying and having to work enjoy as best you can and we will see you in the Clansman.

Food Update – The Clansman has some new additions to the menu namely Haggis Spring Roll and Black Pudding Spring Roll.
