Baku Bears update 7th April 2017

7 Apr

Hello hello
It was a bizarre last week, firstly the 1-1 draw at home with Motherwell last Saturday with Pedro having to make all 3 substitutions at half time and only having a single recognized defender for the whole of the second half. It later emerged that he didn’t give the team any instructions of how to play in the second half….. remember that Saturdays date was the 1st of April !!!!!
Wednesdays 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock was also slightly bizarre with the team being announced the previous day.
Anyway its an away league tie against the Mutton Mollesters this week, game is on Sunday with a 15.30 kick off. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit.

There will be a Members meeting in the Bear Pit next Tuesday 11th April @ 7pm, as usual it’s your chance to come down and have your say on how the club is being run and bring up any suggestions that you may have.

Just a reminder for anyone that is not aware we are registered at Ibrox ticket office so if anyone is looking for tickets for either home or away games please drop an email to this address at least 3 weeks in advance and we will apply for you. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee full allocation.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 2nd February 17

2 Feb

Hello hello
As it’s said " After the Lord Mayors’ show", it was a completely depressing display last night against a Hearts side who in the past weeks have struggled since appointing yon loon that looks like he should still be in school shorts. Only good point, if there was actually one was that Hyndman scored his 2nd goal in 2 matches after the start of his loan spell.
We remain 2 points ahead of the Sheep though they have a game in hand.

This weekends game see us hosting Ross County on Saturday, kick off is 7pm Baku time and the game will be shown via RTV in the Bear Pit.

For those of you who have a passion for odd shaped balls this weekend sees the start of the 6 Nations Rugby tournament.
Below is a listing of live sport being shown in the Clansman.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 27th January 17

27 Jan

Hello Hello
Last Saturdays cup game was a nail biter. We eventually ran out 2 – 1 winners against Motherwell with 2 late goals from Kenny Miller. Had to laugh at the interview from McGee after the game, I guess he must have been watching a different game to us !!!
We have been drawn at home against Morton in the next round with game to be played on 11th February.

This weekend sees us away to Motherwell in the league. Game kicks off at 4.30 Baku time tomorrow (Saturday), game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit.

Last Sunday saw the Annual Festive Season Raffle draw with 40 prizes. We raised 8160AZN through the draw and auction. Many thanks to all who contributed prizes and bought tickets. Listing of all the prizes winners is attached, please make sure that they pick their prizes up from the Clansman as soon as possible.

Tonight the Clansman will be having ‘Rock and Reel’ Scottish Ceilidh band playing for a few hours from about 9pm onwards, hope that you can come down and enjoy their music and have a bit crack.
On Saturday night the Clansman will be holding it’s 4th birthday party, another excuse to have a right good swally not that any excuse is normally required.

February’s Fixtures

Saturday 11th home to Morton 19.00 kick off

Baku Bears weekly update 8th December

8 Dec

Hello hello
Apologies for no email last week, struck down with the lurgie and had nothing to do with the pitiful display at Tynecastle against the Jam Tarts, honest !!!

Anyway after the very disappointing result and display, the Magic Hat made 5 changes to the line up for the home game against the Mutton Molesters on Saturday. Played a lot better, with some passion and determination, ending with us winning 2-1 and moving back into 2nd place in the league. Its now been 25 years since the sheep won at Ibrox that was the year that the movie Silence of the Lambs was released, coincidence I think not !!!!

This week sees Hearts come to Ibrox with their new 30 year old manager Ian Cathro taking charge for the first time. Game is on Saturday 10th December with a 7pm kick off, game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV.

As previously mentioned the tickets for the Annual Festive Season are now available, members are requested to take 100AZN worth of tickets for selling. We are still looking for donations of prizes as the response has been very poor to date. Dig deep as its all for our charities. Draw will be on Sunday 15th January in the Clansman.

I am organizing an overseas Baku Bears get together in Glasgow on Tuesday 20th December with swally off at 2pm in a pub in the city centre, let me know if anyone fancies meeting up so I can make forward reservations at Helen Street bed and breakfast !!!!!.
So far George the ex-doorman (ear plugs will be provided), Iain and Derek the Aecom choir (double ear plugs will be provided), Clark the shortest secretary in the Baku Bears history and Davie Hughes Balifov Rovers superstar have confirmed. The more the merrier.

As the festive season is almost on us remember we have club polo shirts, tee shirts, medals and wallets available. Make your Christmas shopping easy and spend more time drinking !!!!

Baku Bears Update 24th November 16

24 Nov

Hello Hello
It was a nail biting game last weekend which saw Rangers narrowly win against Dundee at Ibrox, never the less its the 3 points that counts. We retain 3rd spot 1 point behind the Sheep

This weekends game is an early kick off at home to Partick Thistle, game kicks off at 16.15 Baku time and will be shown in the Bear Pit as normal.

As already mentioned we will be having our annual Festive Season raffle and are looking for donations of prizes. If you will be donating a prize or know of any companies who would be able to can you let us know as to date we have very very little response.

Nov/Dec Fixtures
Sat 26th Nov home to Partick Thistle 16.15
Wed 30th Nov away to Hearts 23.34
Sat 3rd Dec home to the Sheep 18.00
Sat 10th Dec home to Hearts 18.00
Fri 16th Dec away to Hamilton 23.45
Sat 24th Dec home to Inverness 16.30
Wed 28th Dec away to St Johnstone 23.45
Sat 31st Dec home to them 16.15

As some of you will have noticed the pool table that was in the Bear Pit has now been moved to the upper level of the Clansman for everyone to enjoy, if you fancy a game of pool you now know where you can get a game.

On the subject of the Clansman, Bobby who runs the kitchen will be stopping as from 30th November, there will be a short closure of the kitchen after this while the new chef gets the kitchen into a fully operational status again. There will be a new menu and will share it with you once finalised.

I believe that UK Prime Minister Theresa May has been in contact with Peter Liewell asking for advice on Brexit seeing as the soap dodgers manage to completely exit Europe quickly every year

Proctor and Gamble are marketing a revised naming of their shampoo especially for those less fortunate souls from the East end, its called Go and Wash.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 11th November 16

11 Nov

Hello Hello
Another week another poor result and display this time against Ross County. A 1-1 draw saw us go back down the table and we are now 3rd in the league 1 point behind the sheep.
Not sure if the result was because of a member of the Ladyboy Loyal deciding to try out his culinary skills instead of watching the game with his mates !!!!!

Unless you’ve been on the moon you will have seen that Joey Barton yesterday finally had his contract terminated after getting a sick note for stress at the weekend. Feck me 18k a week and he’s stressed out !!!

There is no league game this weekend as it’s International fitba with the oldest International game in the world taking place at Wembley. Yes it’s Engerland v’s Scotland in the World Cup qualifiers.
The game is played tonight (Friday 11th Nov) with a 23.45 kick off Baku time. The Clansman will be showing the game live on the big screen and all the tellies.
A lot has been made about the FIFA ban on the players wearing poppies and it’s good to see both FA’s deciding to defy the ban for the game.

This weekend it’s time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, The Clansman and the club have always supported Poppy Scotland and would ask you to get a poppy and make a donation to a worthwhile cause. Poppies are available behind the bar in the Clansman.

Wear Your Poppy With Pride, November 2016

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Baku Bears Update 3rd November 16

3 Nov

Hello Hello
Last weekend saw us move into second place in the league after an impressive 3 – 0 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox. Here’s hoping that it will be a turnaround game for us and we can start building on it.
This weekend see’s us away to Ross County, game is on Sunday 6th November with a 4pm kick off Baku time. Game as always will be shown in the Bear pit.

We will shortly be starting to sell tickets for the annual Festive Season Raffle with tentative date for the draw being Sat 21st Jan 2017. We will be looking for donations for prizes so if you know of any companies/individuals who will be able to contribute please let us know.

Reminder that there are poppies for sale in the Clansman, please support this worthy cause.

Rangers announced this week that they will be playing Leipzig in Germany on Sunday 15th January. Are there any members who fancy going to the game if we can get tickets ?
I have looked at flights and could travel via Istanbul.
Depart Baku 04.45 arriving in Leipzig 10.45 on the Saturday, leaving all day Saturday to visit all the local museums and places of culture !!!
Returning Monday 17.50 arriving Baku 05.45 (Tuesday).
Cost just now is showing 467 Euros.
Please let me know asap.

There was a disappointing turnout for the members meeting with only 6 people present, 4 of which were the committee.
One of the items that was discussed was to add another member to the committee, if anyone would like to join the committee to assist with running the club can you let us know. The club does not run itself

Had a bit of trouble this week, Amazon screwed up my order as I received a Celtic strip instead of the Dracula costume I ordered for Halloween.
They must have misheard me when I said I wanted to look like a Count !!!!!

Baku Bears Update 28th Oct

28 Oct

Hello Hello
It was a disappointing week having gone out of the Bet Fred semi-final in the dying moments of the 90 mins and then drawing 1-1 with St Johnstone at home on Wednesday night. We are still 5th in the league but only 2 points off second place.

This weekend sees us at home to Kilmarnock tomorrow ( Saturday 29th October) with a 6pm kick off Baku time. The game will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV. Here’s hoping that Gaveeen from the Ladyboy Loyal will be a better talisman than he was last weekend as he will be attending the game.

Reminder that there will be a members meeting next Tuesday 1st November @7pm in the Bear Pit, hope to see as many members there as possible.

The Clansman have poppies available behind the bar, dig deep and give a donation to this worthy cause.

The Clansman is also having a haloween party on Saturday night with a band playing from 20.30 to 22.30 and then a DJ spinning 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music till closing time. There will be a prize for the best dressed so get yir costumes donned. A few really scary suggestions would be – Brendan the Tranny lover, Scott Lego man or how about the Ginger Minge !!!

Next months Rangers games ( all Baku time)
Sunday 6th November away to Ross County 16.00
Saturday 19th November home to Dundee 19.00
Saturday 26th November away to Partick Thistle 16.15

Remember the clocks go back an hour in the UK this Sunday

Baku Bears Weekly Update 20th October 16

20 Oct

Game is on Sunday with a 17.15 kick off Baku time. Game will be shown in the Bear Pit for members and their guests only. Come on down early and we’ll put some entertainment on.
Gaveeeen McInnes from the Ladyboy Loyal will be at the game so hoping he is our lucky talisman.

Baku Bears Update 23rd September 16

23 Sep

Hello hello
It was another frustrating game last weekend with Rangers doing everything except sticking the baw in the pokey.

Tuesday nights 5 – 0 win over Queen of the South has put us into the League Cup semi-final where we will play the Rotten Mob. Game to be played on either Sat 22nd or Sunday 23rd October.

This weekend sees us away to the Mutton Molesters. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit on Sunday, kick off is 4pm Baku time. Graeme Roddie will be there so look out for the Baku Bears flag assuming that he’s allowed to take it into the ground.

Pool – This year there will not be a team playing out of the Bear Pit however Ali Still is looking at organising a Baku Bears singles league for members and guests. Initial thoughts were it would be on a Wednesday night from 7pm – 10pm, no entry fee. Please contact Ali Still if you are interested in participating.

If your looking at watching any of the football games this weekend the Clansman will be showing the following :
Man Utd v Leicester 15.30 on Saturday @ 15.30
Liverpool v Hull or Middleboro v Spurs on Saturday @ 18.00
Arsenal v Chelsea on Saturday @ 20.30
Aston Villa v Newcastle on Saturday @ 20.30

Baku Bears Weekly Update 8th September 2016

9 Sep

Hello hello
Last weekend saw us playing a friendly against Linfield running out eventual winners 7-0, not quite the Bobby Sands scoreline that everyone was looking for.
There was a few additions to the squad for the game with new signing Phillipe No- Surrenderos playing for the first time as well as Joe Garner who scored and then had to go off due to injury only to come back on with a bandaged napper , a return from injury for Josh Windass.
Kenny Miller scored 4 goals with Keirnan, Garner and Kranjcar each getting one.

This weekend see’s us return to the midden aka The Girodome for the first league game in 4 seasons against them.
The game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit for members and their guests only, if you are taking a guest please make sure they are no supporting the dark side as a mild ‘chibbing’ may offend !!!!
The Bear Pit will be open tomorrow at 2pm with the game on live from 3pm, Derek the pub singer has flown in especially for the game so expect a noisy fun filled afternoon.

Some of the Baku Bears members will be playing a golf tournament tomorrow morning against the members of the less fortunate. Good luck guys

Thanks to the 12 members who turned up for the regular bi-monthly meeting, next meeting will be held on Tue 1st November @ 7pm in the Bear Pit.

The club have registered at Rangers Ticket Office and if any members are looking for tickets can you please drop me a note 4 weeks in advance so we can make the necessary arrangements. One point of note from Tuesday’s meeting is that the tickets are for members only, particularly when there is big games with high demand if you are not using the ticket then it should be returned to the club for other members to use.

From next week only 2016/17 members will be getting the regular updates, if any new member doesn’t get the mail next week please let us know. For any previous member wanting to keep in touch with what the club are doing you can sign up for updates via the website and enter your email address at the bottom of the Home page.

The new tee-shirts and polo shirts arrived a couple of weeks ago and are selling well so make sure you get yours before they sell out, there are also Baku Bears coins and wallets available. See any committee member.

Here’s to a great weekend.

Baku Bears Update 19th August 16

19 Aug

Hello hello
It was a hard fought encounter at Dens Park last weekend with the Gers holding on for a 2 – 1 win which took us to the top of the Premier league.
A big thanks to all the nutters who stayed back in the Bear Pit after the game where a selection of music was played, a right good laugh was had by all.
Was good to see former Vice President Shuggie returning for the weekend though he did look flabbergasted when he received his first ever bar bill in the Clansman !!!!!

This weekends game sees us playing Motherwell for the 2nd time this season. Game will be shown as always in the Bear Pit with a 6pm Baku time kick aff which will please a lot of the guys who haven’t been able to make the last couple of games due to early kick off and having unsympathetic bosses (Beattie !!!!).
Rumours abound that the Ladyboy loyal will be having auditions for the vacancy left by John Whyte’s departure, allegedly it involves pink shorts and ping pong balls !!!!

Rangers announced that they will be travelling over the water to play Linfield on the 3rd September for Jamie Mulgrews testimonial.

Yesterday saw the removal of the Puma logo from Rangers official website so maybe there is something about to change in regards our fitba strip deal with them.

There will be the first monthly members meeting in the Bear Pit on Tuesday 6th September at 7pm so hope to see as many there, it’s your club.

The new club polos and teeshirts will hopefully be available for sale tomorrow.

Baku Bears Update 12th August

12 Aug

Hello hello
It was a frustrating and disappointing start to the league season last Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Hamilton. Waghorn pulled up in the second half after we had used all 3 subs with what looked like a serious hamstring injury however news yesterday says its no too bad and he’ll only be out for 2 – 3 weeks so could be back in contention for the Old Firm game.

Tuesday evening saw us at home in the League cup against Peterheid and we progressed easily through with a 5 – 0 win. Clint Hill scored 2 with Kranjcar and Dodoo also scoring.
That takes us through to the quarter final where we have been drawn against Queen of the South who beat that team from Embra who were gonna win the treble last year.
The quarter final tie will be at home on Tuesday 20th September with a 7.45 pm kick off (UK Time).

This weekend sees us travel to Dundee to take on the league leaders who beat Ross County 3-1 away last weekend. Game kicks aff at 3.15 tomorrow afternoon ( Saturday) and as always will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV.

This will be the last weekend we will have one of the club regulars in attendance as John Whyte will be retiring for a 2nd time. I believe there is a competition between John and Gibbo to see who has the most come backs !!
The club would like to wish John all the very best on his retirement, flitting between Pattaya and Peterheid. John will be in the Clanny tonight and tomorrow if anyone would like to pop in a wish him all the best.
The committee of the Ladyboy Loyal will probably be advertising for a new member to sit with them though I shudder to think what the selection process will be.

Reminder that 2016/17 club fees are due and the old Firm game next month will be Members and guests only.

Interesting to see Dundee United now complaining that the Championship isnay getting any TV coverage this season. Wonder why that is ??? Answers on a postcard to Tannadice.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 4th August 16

4 Aug

Hello hello
It was a disappointing game against Burnley last weekend with the defence looking particularly ropey.

This weekend sees us in our first game back in the Premiership, game is against Hamilton at Ibrox on Saturday with a 3.30pm kick off Baku time. Game as always will be shown in the Bear Pit via RTV.
It’s a total sell out at Ibrox and we are looking forward to seeing everyone even those with pink shorts and luminous tee shirts in the Bear Pit to watch the game !!!!

The draw for the next round of the League cup was made this week and we drew Peterheid, match to be played next Tuesday 9th August at Ibrox with a 22.45 kick off Baku time. Game is not being televised by any of the broadcasters so far.

The next few games are as follows:
Sat 13th August Away to Dundee with a 3.15 pm kick off Baku time
Sat 20th August Home to Motherwell with a 6pm kick off Baku time
Fri 26th August Away to Kilmarnock with a 22.45 pm kick off Baku time.
The one after that will be the first Old Firm game of the season at the Giro Dome on Sat 10th September with a 3pm kick off Baku time. THIS GAME WILL BE MEMBERS AND GUESTS ONLY so make sure you have paid your 2016/17 club fees.

I’m sure you will have read about the imminent sale of Rangers shirts as it appears that Sports Direct have sent them out anyway. Club issued a statement last night. See link below for anyone that hasn’t seen it.
Looks like this issue is going to get even messier than it already was.

The club will have the new logo polo and teeshirts available in the next few weeks, well done to Bear for noticing the deliberate spelling mistake on the sample shown on Saturday !!!!

Here’s to 55

Game verses Burnley tomorrow

29 Jul

This weekend see us playing Burnley in a friendly at Ibrox. Game is on tomorrow Saturday 30th June with a 6pm kick off Baku Time. The game will be shown via Rangers TV in the Bear Pit.

Baku Bears Update 14th July 2016

14 Jul

That’s the close season coming to a end.
We start our 2016/17 campaign with the League Cup this month which has changed to a league format for the opening round.
Our first games are :

Saturday 16th July away to Motherwell 6.00pm

Tuesday 19th July home to Annan Athletic 22.45pm

Friday 22nd July away to East Stirling 22.45pm

All above time are Baku local.

This Saturdays game, away to Motherwell at 6pm local time, will be shown via RTV in the Bear Pit, Ali Still and Big Al will be opening the club for your enjoyment.

12th July 2016 will go down as one of the better days in history :

The Magic Hat and Sir Davie extended their contracts,

That apologist Colleymore being shown the door at Talksport

And not forgetting the Scottish champion football club being out played, out smarted and generally having the pish ripped right out of them by a team 4th, yes 4th bottom in UEFA rankings.

Am hearing the the Scottish champion fitba club have this evening appealed to UEFA as the Red Hillman Imp midfield player wasn’t registered by Corgi!!!.

Membership fees are now due for the coming season. Full membership is 150AZN with Overseas membership 75 AZN.

We will be registering the club at the Rangers Ticket Office this year so if anyone is looking for tickets ( MEMBERS ONLY) please let me know preferably 4 weeks in advance.

The club are presently in the process of getting shirts produced with the new logo and they should be on sale in the next couple of weeks, further details will follow.

Here’s to the start of our season back in the league where we belong, looking forward to seeing everyone again back in the Bear Pit.

Baku Bears weekly update 19th May 2016

19 May

Hello Hello
After a few weeks lay off it’s now time for the final game of the season, playing in the Scottish Cup Final, at Hampden against the spoon burners fae Leith who are going for the Treble ( of losses)

Game kicks off at 6pm Baku time on Saturday and will be shown via Rangers TV in the Bear Pit.
Remember this is a MEMBERS ONLY event with Les Tulleth and Graham Beattie picking up the bar tab. A big thank you to the guys and Ella has got the 40 cases of Moet ready !!!!
Brian Church has also kindly donated a bottle of Vodka so that members can have a silver bullet, thanks Brian, just hope that you have told Bear that he’s to pay for it !!!

We will also have the AGM in the Bear Pit at 5pm before the game, looking for a good turnout and would like to ask if any of the members would like to take a position on the committee then please let us know, always good to have new blood.

Reminder if you haven’t let us know what club logo you want for next season then please do so by tomorrow evening.

Interesting development yesterday with Rangers withdrawing the rights to use the club trademarks to Rangers Retail who are 49% owned by Ashley. All references to Sports Direct have also been removed from Rangers website.

Rocket Ronnie this week said a thank you to the Ce*tic fans for making him feel like "One of them" – Unemployed !!!!!!

There will be a few members leaving Baku over the coming months and we would like to wish them all the very best for the future.
If anyone wants to keep in touch with what the Baku Bears are doing, log onto the website ( and down the bottom of the home page you can sign up for Following all posts.

Here’s to a successful day on Saturday to round off a fantastic season and to 55.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 12th May 16

12 May

Hello Hello
Its been a quiet week with nae Rangers fitba to watch so its all about the build up to the Scottish Cup Final a week on Saturday. Don’t forget that this will be a members only event in the Bear Pit thanks to free swally provided by Les and Beattie. Kick off is 6pm.

We are looking at updating our logo for next season, to that end attached are 4 possibilities. Can you have a look and reply back with which one you would like to see, also if there are any other suggestions on what we have let us know. Need replies back before 20th May.

As you all maybe aware our President of Vice, Pochlin Cochrane ( aka Jakie #1) will be leaving Baku on Saturday to take up a position (probably at the end of a bar !!) in Dubai.
Shug, you’ll certainly be missed though the general public of Baku might get a chance now of drinking Heineken and Strongbow
We would like to wish Shug all the very best and our gain is the Dubai Loyal’s loss !!!!

There was a video clip added to you tube over the past couple of days.

Baku Bears Weekly Update 5th May 16

5 May

Hello Hello
That’s the league season done along with a gubbing of the unwashed so it’s only the Scottish Cup Final against the Spoonburners ( who were going to win a treble and cannae even win their first pay off game !!!) to be played.
The game is on Saturday 21st May with a 6pm kick off Baku time.
An extremely generous offer has been made by Les Tulleth and Graham Beattie to pick up the bar tab for the game ( they have stated an amount but if we get them pished enough they will have forgotten what it was !!!) so with that in mind the Bear Pit will be a MEMBERS ONLY event again. Many thanks Les and Graham.
The game will be shown up the stairs in the Clansman for non members.

As was mention a few weeks back Craig MacKinnon participated as captain of the home team at Ibrox on Tuesday night with proceeds going to the Field of Dreams Charity.
Below is brief Match report from Craig:
Wow Gents what a great night and experience !!!!. Game kicked off, and after 25 mins we were 3-0 down 11, After a slight and quick adjustment we went in at half time 3-3. Came out second half, and after a couple of quick classy goals, we ended up winning 8-5 at end of 90 mins.

Attached are a few photos of the presentation of the Baku Bears Cheque, players with the Baku Bears Flag in the dressing room and also some of Craig looking like he was in heaven.
Well done Craig you have done the Baku Bears proud though a wee birdie from inside Ibrox said to tell you not to give up your day job !!!!

Below is a wee song that I found on Youtube which is good for a wee bit of fun. Go to Youtube and search for Dean Chalmers we are the people/king of the road
